Let’s share some February love all month long
Today is Valentine’s Day. It’s estimated that $3.3 billion will be spent on flowers for loved ones and every year, more than 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are sold across the country. February 14th is the second largest card giving day of the year, just after Christmas. I’d say this qualifies as a “love” day for sure, however, what about all the other days in February? Being a Libra, I’m into balance and feel it’s important to spread that love around. If you need a nudge, here are a few more opportunities to share the love.
February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness day. According to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, any kind deed will do such as writing positive quotes on sticky notes and posting them for others. You can pick up trash at the beach, or take time to send a handwritten note to a relative or friend. The more kind acts for others, the better. It’s a proven fact that when we give to others, it makes both the giver and receivers feel good. The promoters of this special holiday offer a word of caution: Random Acts of Kindness are highly contagious.
For your beloved fur babies, February 20 is Love Your Pet Day–to pamper your pet with special treats. Whatever they love, this is the day to give them an extra dose. And, you can share the love with other pet owners by sending them an Ecard. That’s right. Online greeting card companies offer a wide choice of cards for people to acknowledge other pet owners. Check it out! If you don’t have a pet, this is a perfect day to share the love and adopt one.
It’s also American Heart Month in February. The annual celebration began in 1963 to encourage Americans to become more proactive in preventing heart disease. A presidential proclamation pays tribute each year to researchers, physicians, public health professionals and volunteers for their tireless efforts in preventing, treating and researching heart disease, which is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S. Romantically speaking, imagine if everyone had a love affair with their heart and did everything possible to take care of it? I think the stats on lives saved would be “Unforgettable”—a classic Valentine’s Day song by Nat King Cole.
Valentine’s Day may be a special day for expressing love to others. It’s also a reminder that we don’t need a specific holiday to be the love and share it with others. Happy Hearts Day everyone!
